The Barcelona has a sub-humid Mediterranean climate, with annual mean rainfall of some 600 mm (l/m2). On average, there are 84 days of appreciable rainfall a year, of which 17 have more than 10 mm of rainfall. The wettest seasons are the autumn and spring, while summer is the driest season. The mean annual temperature is around 15 ºC, with a January mean of 8 ºC and July and August mean of 23 ºC. The temperature of the sea surface water ranges between 12.4 ºC in February and 22.8 ºC in August.
For much of the year winds are only light, a situation which changes only when a tramontana (NNW) wind blows, which it does in episodes that can last some days and with winds of more than 100 km/h. This wind mostly blows between October and May, and more rarely on the occasional days in the summer. Mean annual sunshine is around 2,600 hours; the month of July is usually the sunniest, with an average of 330 hours. Stormy seas, with waves over 3 metres’ high, affect us on average three times a year and, though there is the the odd exception, are usually between October and April.
